One day around 2005, I was staying in a small mountain town in Southwest Colorado called Ridgway. I was with a friend as we needed a weekend getaway from everything in my life. I was struggling with my business at the time and my mom was sick as well. She was my world and I couldn’t imagine life without her. I was really scared of the grief I would feel when she was gone and boy was I right to be scared.
As we were walking down the main street of Ridgway, there was a car with a bumper sticker that said, “live the life we love and love the life we live”. This is a quote from Bob Marley, musician, which made it even more compelling. I really had to ask myself at that moment if I was living the life I loved. And I had to answer no.
Little did I know that my life was going to go down hill from there. In 2006, my mother passed away. I was so devastated for months and months. And at the same time, my business just wasn’t taking off and I was at a place that I needed to either close it or do something else. As the years went by, I eventually closed my business and I spent my time taking care of my dad. Then in 2010, my father passed away and I was in depression like I’ve never known it. I kept moving forward, one small step at a time. I had started a career at the casinos in 2008 which helped me stay distracted from my depression. As my decade of being in my 40’s which proved to be the worst 10 years of my life came to a close, I make a conscious choice to have fun in my 50’s. And fun I did. I had fun working at the casinos in Colorado(which is a whole different story), I met my future husband, which would be my first marriage. I moved out of my hometown which was always a reminder of my sadness and now I am doing what I love to do with my coaching business and living in a beautiful place in the mountains with my husband and my dogs.
As the days, weeks, months and years went by, I never forgot that quote. I really try and live by it. Now with my coaching business, I want to help people to strive to live the life they love.
